ZF Secures New ADAS Business Nomination from Indian CV OEM for Bus Safety Solutions

ADAS Business Nomination

Chennai: Strengthening its position in the commercial vehicle safety ecosystem, ZF Commercial Vehicle Control Systems India Limited has secured another ADAS Business Nomination from an Indian commercial vehicle OEM to develop and supply advanced driver assistance systems for an upcoming bus platform.

This latest ADAS Business Nomination reflects the growing adoption of advanced safety technologies across India’s commercial vehicle segment, driven by regulatory mandates and increasing focus on road safety.

ZF continues to expand its ADAS roadmap, aligning innovation with the evolving needs of the Indian transport industry.

Advanced ADAS Suite Tailored for Indian Conditions

Under this ADAS Business Nomination, ZF will deploy its flagship OnGuardMAX platform, an advanced multi-sensor driver assistance system designed specifically for commercial vehicles.

The solution integrates a front camera, mid-range radar, and an image processing module to enable Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), along with a suite of advanced safety functions.

Complementing this setup, ZF’s Short-Range Radar (SRR) technology enhances near-field detection by covering blind spots on the sides and front of the vehicle. This ensures improved protection for vulnerable road users (VRUs), a critical requirement in dense urban mobility environments.

The ADAS Business Nomination includes integration with Electronic Braking System (EBS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC), enabling faster braking response, improved vehicle stability, and reduced stopping distances—particularly crucial for electric bus platforms.

Compliance, Validation, and Feature Set

ZF’s ADAS solution, developed under this ADAS Business Nomination, is fully compliant with GSR 184(E) regulations and includes key safety features such as:

  • Autonomous Emergency Braking System (AEBS)
  • Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)
  • Driver Drowsiness and Attention Warning (DDAW)
  • Moving Off Information System (MOIS)
  • Blind Spot Information System (BSIS)

The system has been validated over 4,50,000 km of Indian road testing and is certified by ARAI, ensuring reliability under diverse operating conditions.

This ADAS Business Nomination further reinforces ZF’s commitment to delivering India-ready solutions backed by global engineering expertise.

Paramjit Singh Chadha, Managing Director, ZF Commercial Vehicle Control Systems India Limited, said: “ADAS was and remains a strategic priority for ZF Commercial Vehicles in India. With a legacy of deep customer understanding and proven technological competence that make commercial transportation safer, smarter and more efficient, we also offer ADAS solutions that fit the specific driving conditions in India and at the same time have the backing of our global expertise.”

Akash Passey, Non-Executive Chairman, ZF Commercial Vehicle Control Systems India Limited & President – ZF Group India, added: “We see a rapid acceleration in India in the adoption of advanced driver assistance technologies that enhance road safety and operational efficiency. ZF Commercial Vehicles Division offers made-to-fit market solutions that address the specific needs of leading and new-age e-mobility OEMs with the strength of ZF’s global engineering expertise and combining it with deep regional insights. This enables Indian OEMs in meeting rising safety expectations and preparing the industry for the next level of automation.”

Integrated Safety and Operational Benefits

The ADAS Business Nomination enables a unified architecture combining ADAS, braking, and stability systems. This integration delivers enhanced collision avoidance, improved safety for vulnerable road users, and better stability across varying road conditions.

Key operational advantages include reduced accident exposure, optimized brake wear, lower downtime, and improved route consistency—critical factors for fleet operators and public transport systems.

ADAS Business Nomination: Program Scope and Future Roadmap

The scope of this ADAS Business Nomination includes system supply, vehicle integration, calibration, and validation for bus platforms. The start of production (SOP) is targeted for Q1 2027.

The platform architecture is scalable up to SAE Level 2 automation, ensuring readiness for future mobility advancements and increasing automation requirements.

ZF also clarified that earlier references to divestment of ADAS activities pertained only to its passenger car division and have no impact on its continued focus and investments in ADAS technologies for commercial vehicles in India.
